Terry Daffinson - candidate for Trempealeau County sheriff

Terry Daffinson has announced his candidacy for Trempealeau County Sheriff. Terry has lived in Trempealeau County his entire life. Terry has been married to his wife, Carla, for 33 years. The two have four sons, Isaiah, Elijah, Tanner and Tyler, who all live in Trempealeau County.

Terry has worked in law enforcement for more than 30 years. He began his career with the Trempealeau Police Department in 1979, then accepted a position at the Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department (TCSD) in 1984.

Terry began his career with the TCSD as a jailer and road deputy in 1991, Terry was promoted to traffic Sergeant, supervising the patrol activities of approximately 16 deputies.

After 12 years as Traffic Sergeant, Terry took over supervision of the Electronic Monitoring Program.

Terry continued to direct that program for approximately six years before returning to the position of Traffic Sergeant in 2009.

Terry also has extensive experience with alternative sentencing programs. In 2005, Terry was appointed to the Drug/OWl Court Steering Committee, which developed an intensive rehabilitation program for non-violent drug and alcohol offenders. Terry, was then appointed to, be the law enforcement officer on the Drug/OWl Court team, and attended national training on the development and operation of alternative court programs, as well as training on the intricacies of addiction itself. Terry has been the OWl/Drug Court Officer since the program's inception in 2006.

As sheriff, Terry pledges to work toward the elimination of wasteful spending in the Sheriff's Department.

"Currently, unnecessary spending is rampant under the administration," he said. "I will demonstrate fiscal responsibility, using county resources wisely and efficiently."

Terry also pledges to unite the department employees through fair and equal treatment and with respectful dialog. By doing so, Terry will form a motivated, cohesive unit that will work effectively to protect and serve the citizens of Trempealeau County.

In addition, Terry is determined to revitalize the stagnant drug enforcement program through aggressive drug investigations. Additional officer training and better utilization of the county drug detection canine are also necessary. Terry also believes it is important to devote time to educate our youth of the dangers associated with drug and alcohol use through continued support of the DARE program.

"During the course of next few months, I hope to inform you of, and offer solutions to, known deficiencies within Sheriffs Department," he said. "Trempealeau County is a small, rural area, but the department is being run as if it were a large county with endless tax revenue. Most of us have had to tighten our purse strings recently and go without in order to make ends meet, while the Sheriff's Department continues to spend our tax dollars on wasteful, unnecessary expenditures. The citizens deserve better service and accountability in the department. I will bring the change you seek in Sheriff's Department leadership."
